KILGORE, RECORD

BROWNING

Seeking information on descendants of Robert Jonathan BROWNING who died 15 Jul 1885, Madison Co. AL. Samuel W. Browning married Margaret Smith Lincoln Co. TN 1857; Charles H. B. Browning married Sarah Grubbs 1858 Lincoln Co. Their children are listed in Robert's estate settlement: Felix Browning, Ellis Co. Tex, and Americus KING, wife of James King of Lincoln Co are children of his decd son, Samuel Browning. Benton and Robert Browning of Johnson Co. Tex. are children of his decd. son, Charles B. BROWNING. I descend through Robert J. BROWNING's daughter Elmina, who married Isaac WHITT and lived Lincoln Co. TN. Any information on these children would be appreciated. Imogean M. I have been told my gr-grandfather, Emanuel (Manuel) HERRIN, lived and died in Italy, Ellis Co. His wife was Sarah--?. DEARING

Andrew Newton DEARING m. Carolina WILSON? [date not known]. Family moved to Ellis County early 1900s from Harrison, Ark. Had eight children: Danny (burned in house fire near City Service Plant area [sic]; William, Elvia, E. C., P. V., Joseph and two daughters [names not known]. All are said to be buried in a cemetery named Lone Tree near Higgins. I have current generations, but need help in "going backward." Would be pleased to share information. PALMER

My gr-grandparents, William Andrew PALMER and Varzena Fritzland PALMER were living in Ellis County in 1900 (per census). They were in Arkansas in 1880 and moved to Texas sometime after 1882. George Washington BARFIELD ASHLEY m. Mary Elizabeth BROCK 18 Jan 1883 in Ellis Co. She was the daughter of Elias Franklin BROCK (b. 1832 SC; d. 1915 McLennan Co. Tex) and Sarah, a part-Cherokee from Tishomingo Co Miss. She had sisters Sarah J. (m. Will COLLIER) and Martha (m. John SHELBY). By 1859 Elias BROCK had married Annie Elizabeth WILLIAMS and had six children who moved to Tex from Miss: Charles E. (b. 1860 Miss. - m. Emily COOKSEY); Amanda (b. 1864 m. Mr. FRENCH); Margaret Caroline (b. 1866 m. William INGRAM); John M. b. 1870 m. Rowena HARRISON); William Franklin (b. 1870 b. Maybell SCOTT) and James Thomas b. 1874 (m. Nan - surname unknown). DIXON, ELLIS

Am searching for information on the family and descendants of William DIXON who married Jennie ELLIS of Waverly, Mo. ca 1875. She was b. in Tenn. Their dau, Maggie, was b. BALLEW, BRYANT, COLLINS, WEAVER

My gr-gr-grandparents, Charlie and Lucy BRYANT, moved to Red Oak, Ellis Co. abt 1907 to pick cotton for Charlie's cousin. They stayed about five years, had three more children, and Charlie was ordained a deacon at a Red Oak church. When they left in 1912, their three oldest daughters, then married, stayed in Ellis Co. I'd appreciate any information, but an particularly interested in knowing more about the girls and Charlie's cousin [name not given].

Nellis Frances BRYANT married Arch Alexander BALLEW 8 Oct 1911. They are my great-grandparents. Franny Ethel BRYANT married Noah COLLINS 16 Jan 1908. They had a daughter, Eula May (1909) and a son (1916). Fanny died 27 Dec 1917. Minnie Adaline BRYANT married Jim WEAVER 31 Oct 1912. They had a daughter, Ruth (1913) and a son, Bud (1915). FAULKNER, McCOLLUM

Seeking information on "Captain" Alsdorf FAULKNER (1836-1901), prominent railroad man and financier, who owned a plantation, "Alsdorf" in Ellis County. His widow, Nelly McCOLLUM, was living there when she passed away in 1908. Kinloch McCollum [Tues Nov 25 1997]

LONG, McGOWAN, TRIMBLE

Looking for descendants of Francis M. TRIMBLE who mar. Mary Ann LONG in Cherokee Co. Tex. 1851 and James B. McGOWAN who mar. Matilda LONG Cherokee Co. 1852. The LONGS were sisters. Both families are shown 1860 Ellis County census, pg. 055 and are not shown on a Texas census after that. An F. M. TRIMBLE, shown 1880 Hill Co. Tex. census may have been a son of Francis TRIMBLE. Looking for information on my maternal great-grandmother, Annie B. KELLEY/KELLY. She was born in Waxahachie and married William BROWN in Childress in 1925 where she died ca 9 June 1971. ALLEN, MARTIN, SHEPHEARD

Am searching for information on the family of William Calloway MARTIN (b. Mar. 4, 1865 in Tex). His father was William MARTIN (b. Ala. parents and birthdate not known) and his mother was Sarah (ALLEN? b. Tenn. ca 1842), After William died (before 1870) Sarah m/2 Henry SHEPHEARD (b. 1858 Ky) in Ellis County Oct. 5, 1873. Their children: Robert L. (1864); Jasper; Emily (1880). I believe William MARTIN Sr.'s mother was probably Mary MARTIN (b. 1818 N. C.) and he had siblings: Valentine (1846); Joseph (1849); Lathen (1852) and Mary (1852) - all b. Tenn. This family lived next door to the widow Sarah MARTIN 1870 Ellis County. RUST, ROBERTSON, SMITH

John Thomas (J. T.) RUST is listed as a resident of Ellis County in the 1880 census. Family tradition says he was born in Mo. but lived most of his life in Ellis Co. He supposedly once had a freight wagon business between Texas and New Mexico, with a brother, name not known. John RUST married Nancy Elizabeth SMITH, dau. Vincent Smith and Eliza ROBERTSON. Nancy believed to have been born ca 1847, place unknown, and died ca 1887. Said to have had nine children. One son, Thomas Emmett RUST, b. Jan. 1878, moved to Greer Co Okla. as an adult. Cyrus C. ALEXANDER was born abt 1856 in Mo; his wife, Sallie, b. abt 1865 in Mo. and son, Charlie W. in 1887 in Texas. This family lived in Midlothian, Ellis County in 1900. CONGER, GARRETT, MITCHELL

David MITCHELL was b. abt 1804 Ind; married Eliza G? (b. abt 1812 Tenn); children: Edwin L., Mary C., Ann E., Sopronia E. (b. Ark); Harriet E., b. Tex. David MITCHELL said to have worked for postoffice and served as a JP. He held that office when his dau, Mary Caroline, married Dr. James Bowers CONGER, Sept. 13, 1853. James and Mary had a son, James Lafette CONGER, who married Maude E. GARRETT 23 Oct 1881. Need information on Maude's parents and siblings. Would also like to know David Mitchell's place of death. My ggrandfather, Jacob Columbus PRESLEY, died May 1927 and is buried Bardwell, Ellis Co. His first wife said to have been an Indian named Sally Ann O'DONNELL/O'DANIEL, who was adopted by a white family, Two of their children were my grandfather, William David PRESLEY, and his his sister, Lee Ella. James Author GYGER and wife Lula Dunbar WIMBERLY lived in Waxahachie where he is said to have had a small cookie factory which was sold in 1923. His sister, Lula Blanche GYGER, married F. A. WOSLUM; dau. Margie Loretta mar. Osco Preston TURNER (said to have owned a cotton factory); dau. Dovie May GYGER, married Romi TURNER (Osco's uncle); son, James Thomas GYGER, m. Opal BRYANT. EDWARDS, SINGLETON

The George T. EDWARDS family moved from Pike Co. Ill., stopping in Mo. and in Ellis County 1880. George was married at least three times. Coming with him to Texas were at least two of his children: James L., a doctor, and Maggie, who married Daniel Floyd SINGLETON Ellis County in 1886. Any clues on this family will help. Kathryn L. HANLEY, HERRON, HOSKIN

Mary HERRON and two sons were in Ellis County by 1850. The family first lived Williamson Co. TN moving to Miss. for a time. Mary's granddaughter, Sarah Artimishia HERRON, married Alexander HANLEY, but was widowed by 1860.

Am also interested in the HOSKIN family who were in Ellis County by the 1860s. Am trying to tie them into the same line as my Isabella Jane HOSKINS who married John Nunn STEWART. This couple was in Bowie Co. Tex. by 1836 where both died in the 1840s. Alfred Gatewood HOSKINS of Bowie Co. was probably a brother to Isabella Jane. KENDRICK

Eliahsa Eliahugh KENDRICK was born 22 Aug 1848, Rome Chattooga Co. Ga., and came to Texas 1865/1880 with mother, Alvina. He died 26 March 1908 and is buried in Ennis. APPERSON, ROBBINS

Looking for information on my grandparents. Eli Bradley ROBBINS was b. 7 Jan 1865, Burnt Corn, Ala and d. 3 Feb 1851. His wife, Mary Emma Lee"Minnie" APPERSON was b. 19 Feb 1865, Waxahachie and d. 10 Aug 1952. They married 23 Dec 1886 and lived in the Wilmer-Ferris area. I would like to locate birth records and burial sites of their children: Edward Raymond (1895-1899); Roger Lee (1898-1899); Daniel Petty (1891-1916) and unnamed infant twin (d. 1891). Leonard Joseph CLEMENTS married Mary SMITH Ellis Co. 18 Oct 1860. Children b. Ellis Co: Joseph Leonard b. 9 Feb 1862; Wyatt Franklin b. 20 Mar 1866; Betty b. abt 1872. Alexander McCULLOCH, son of Benjamin McCULLOCH and Sarah MONTFORT STOKES, was b. 16 Aug 1777, Lunenburg, Va; d. 4 Aug 1846 Dyer Co. Tenn. He married 11 Sept 1800, Davidson Co. Tenn. Frances Fisher LENOIR (b. 11 Apr 1780 Dinwiddie, Va; d. 10 May 1866 Ellis Co. Tex. They are both now buried Texas State Cem., Austin, beside their son, Brig. Gen. Benjamin McCULLOCH. Who were the parents of Frances LENOIR? I have names and birth dates of their children, and most marriages, but would like to fill in some of the blanks. James Madison WOODARD m. Mary Jane ADAY and moved to Texas mid/late 1880s. They died in Ellis Co. and are bur. Grady Cem. south of Rankin. George Washington HULLETT and wife, Margaret Jane CLOWDUS (both b. Ala) moved to Ellis Co. early 1900s and lived Oak Community. They are buried Oak Branch Cemetery.
