Five Points

Five Points is located on FM 876 about seven miles south, southwest of Waxahachie and was so named because of its location at a point where five roads came together. One of them, from the northwest, was called Bethel Road, and leads to the Bethel Church and cemetery on Baker Creek south of the old town of Boz.

Many families who were considered residents of the Boz area were actually closer to Five Points than Boz. One such settler was Ira Green, Sr., who lived near High Springs on Chambers Creek. Another was Nicolas P. Sims, who lived farther south south on Chambers Creek near that area before moving to Waxahachie in his later years. A Sims descendant still lives and farms in the Five Points area. Ira Green and Aurora Ellen Carlisle Green had ten children, four of whom remained in the Boz area. Fannie married B. F. Forrester; Ira, Jr. lived about two miles west of Boz; Jane married Dave T. Curry and Nannie married Starlin Sims.

Ira Green Sr. operated a gin at Five Points for a time, also helping with the gin at Boz. According to his descendants, during that time, he walked from his home in the morning to Five Points, and then walked back and on to Greathouse road to the gin at Boz.

Five Points Gin

The gin and store still stand at Five Points but the store has been converted into a dwelling. There may have been other businesses of which I am not aware. This research is incomplete and was gathered mainly while researching the community of Boz.
