History of the Church of Christ

Midlothian, Texas

Contributed by Karen Esberger

We the undersigned members of the Body of Christ met at Christian Chapel for the purpose of organizing into a congregation of worshipers of Almighty God taking Christ and the Apostles alone for the rule of our faith and practice and owning the name Christian alone, and rejecting all other creeds and articles of church government. Further, it will ever be remembered that this congregation has this day organized upon the Bible and the Bible alone which contain the sacred scriptures of Christ and the Apostles unadulterated by man. Further, let it ever be remembered that this congregation will not submit to any other ruling power. Now at this present time Wm. S. Ricketts presiding elder of present body congregation, was called upon to organize the said congregation, the house being called to order when H. K. Hendricks read the 3rd chapter of Colossians, then read and sang the 365 hymn in Christian Hymn Book. Then offered prayer to Almighty God after which saying Bro. Wm. S. Ricketts read a part of the 3rd chapter of First Timothy, pointing out the qualifications of Elders after which Brethren and Sisters proceeded to choose out from among themselves H. K. Hendricks and L. H. Cooper as Elders to preside over said congregation. Next in order was the selecting of Deacons for which Brother Ricketts read the remaining part of said chapter, after which the Brethren and Sisters chose out from among themselves Wm. Rape and J. F. Harris to serve the congregation as deacons. The hand of fellowship was then extended to each other during the time of singing hymn 403 viz Amazing Grace, after which the congregation was adjourned by H. K. Hendricks.

The above was sent before the church on next Lord's day, it being met in regular order for business. The above minutes was approved and accepted.
H. K. Hendricks.

Additional information: built church in Midlothian, 1894, on northeast corner of N. 4th St. & W. Ave. F. The membership became too small to support the church around 1970 and disbanded. The building was later torn down and the lot sold.
