Services for John William Vickrey, Sr., 85, East Afton, were held August 2, at 3 p.m. in the Highway 70 Church of Christ with Van Cash, minister, Afton, officiating.

Vickrey died about 11:05 p.m. July 31, in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer.

Born on May 8, 1902, in Mosheim, Texas, he had resided in Dickens County most of his life. He married Sally Millie Andrews on December 25, 1922, in Dickens County. She died on June 24, 1986.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by one son, J.W. Vickrey, Jr., Afton; a brother, Scott Vickrey, Modesto, CA; and one sister, Le Atkinson, Lubbock; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
