Services for Mrs. Mary Joyce Varnell, 55, of Sonora, were at 2 p.m. March 12, 1990 at graveside in Spur Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Carl Coffee, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church, officiated.

Campbell Funeral Home, Spur, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Varnell died about 9:15 p.m. March 9, in St. John's Hospital, San Angelo, following a lengthy illness. Born September 3, 1934 in Spur, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper. She had resided in Sonora since 1978 after moving there from Mineral Wells.

She married Melvin Leon Varnell on January 31, 1952 in Matador. He died on July 26, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Nikke Matlock, Lovington, NM and Vena Beyer, Mineral Wells; her mother, Addie Lou Roberts, Spur, and four grandchildren.
