Biography

The Crockett family has been in Dickens County since 1922. Franklin B. "Wolf" Crockett and Josephine Alice Strange were married on June 28, 1922, in Temple, Texas. They moved to Spur at the same time. "Wolf" worked in a feed and chicken hatchery that was owned by W.M. Hazel. Mr. Crockett later worked as a barber for Cecil Fox. The family later moved to a farm about 11 miles northwest of Spur in the Espuela Community. They had 3 children: R.W. "Bob", Virginia Ruth, and Alice Josephine. The family was very active in church and community affairs. Their children all attended public school in Spur, graduating from Spur High School. Bob still lives in Spur. Virginia Ruth was killed in a car accident in June of 1942. Alice lives in Midland, Texas. Josephine S. passed away in November 1953 and "Wolf" died in July, 1964.

Alice Crockett Williams was born in Spur, Texas June 19, 1936. Her parents were F.B. and Josephine S. Crockett. Alice grew up on their farm in the Espuela Community northwest of Spur. She attended public school in Spur and graduated from Spur High School in May 1954. She attended Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas where she met her husband, Carl C. Williams of Fabens, Texas. Alice and Carl have three children: Michael Travis, Renee, and Sylvia. They have seven grandchildren. Alice and Carl have lived in Fabens, Van Horn, Alpine, and Midland, Texas. Carl has been in law enforcement all of their married life.

Alice has been listed in Who´s Who in "Women of the Southwest" and "Texas Women" for her service to her community and church. She has been very active in community and church affairs. She has worked as a receptionist, secretary, radio traffic manager, weight clerk at a cotton gin, office manager and photographer´s assistant.

Alice and Carl own MARC Photography in Midland, Texas. Carl also works for the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standard and Education. Alice is Office Manager for FitzCo Sound.

He was a Master Mason, Ranched in Mercury, TX for W.A. Weldon. Davy Crokett of the Alamo was his 3rd cousin, 3X removed. He was raised in Salado, resided in Stagecoach Inn.

Josephine was a school teacher in Temple "Slinging Sammy Baugh" Pro-Football player was one of her students. Homemaker, gifted seamstress, active in church work. Member Home Demonstration Club, Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, served in every position. Organized the Spur Rainbow Girl. Was married by Rev. John W. Holsapple, First Christian Church.

Obituary

Josephine Crockett(Special) Mrs. Josephine Alice Crockett, 55, died at 5 p.m. Monday in her home in the Espuela community near here.

Services will be held here at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church, the Rev. Cal C. Wright, officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Floyd, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Robert.W. Crockett and Alice, both of Espuela; four sisters, Mrs. Ben McGregor, Lubbock; Mrs. George Shipp, Brownwood; Mrs. R.C. Crockett, La Luz, NM; and Mrs. W.B. Glass, Temple.

Mrs. Crockett was born April 15, 1898 in Temple. She moved to Dickens County in 1922 and married F.B. Crockett the same year. She was a member of the council of the Home Demonstration Club and a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She organized the Spur Rainbow Girls.

Frank CrockettFuneral services were held Monday, July 27, at 3 p.m. for Franklin B. Crockett, retired Dickens County farmer, at the First Methodist Church, Spur.

Rev. Wm. McReynolds assisted by Rev. Conrad Ryan, Ralls officiated at the services.

Crockett was born in January 1894, at Salado and died at his home in the Espuela community, July 25. He came to Dickens County in 1922 when he made his first home in Spur. Ten years later he moved to the Espuela community.

Survivors include a son R.W. Crockett, Spur; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Jo Williams of Alpine; a sister, Mrs. Sally Wells of Austin; two brothers, L.M. of Ft. Worth, and R.C. of La Luz, NM; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were T.C. Elkins, Horace Hyatt, R.J. Bell, Hubert Karr, Harold Karr, Alfred Elkins, Don Ramey and Floyd Barnett.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery with Masonic graveside services.
