Rites Conducted for Former Dickens Youth In Tahoka

The body of Pvt. Weldon W. Havens, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Havens of Tahoka, who was killed on Okinawa, June 16, 1945, arrived in Tahoka Tuesday morning.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Stanley Funeral Home Chapel in Tahoka, with Rev. C.L. Jarrett and Rev. D.L. Handley, both of RoaringSprings, Primitive Baptist Church officiating. They were assisted by Rev. V.A. Lawrence, pastor of the Tahoka Primitive Baptist Church.

The veterans of Foreign wars conducted graveside services in TECH MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY OF LUBBOCK. Stanley Funeral Home was in charge of burial.

Pvt. Havens entered the service from Dickens County. He had resided in the Roaring Springs vicinity all his life. His parents moved to Tahoka in 1945.

Survivors in addition to the parents include two sisters, Miss Elda Havens of Amarillo and Miss Elsie Havens of Tahoka; four brothers, J.A. Havens, Jr. of Amarillo and Orville Havens, Richard Havens, and Wayne Havens, all of Tahoka; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Morris of Canyon.
