Remains of Dickens Boys, Are Enroute Home From N.Y.

U.S.Flag  Official notice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Fonzo Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Stubblefield of Dickens , that the remains of their sons, Staff Sgt. Clifton E. Shaw and Pvt. David J. Stubblefield , are included wit those of 260 other Texas boys aboard the U.S. Army Transport Lawrence Victory which recently docked in New York.

These bodies will be sent to Fort Worth, distribution center for the war dead, then sent to different points from there. They will be accompanied by military escort to their final resting places.

Reburial Services Held for Sgt. Shaw

Reburial services for Sgt. Clifton E. Shaw, who was killed in action December 15, 1944, were held in the Baptist Church in Dickens, Thursday, August 12, at 5:00 p.m., with Rev. B.C. Stonecipher, officiating.

Sgt. Shaw was the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.G. Shaw of Dickens. He was the grandson of Uncle E. Shaw of the Wichita community. He was born October 2, 1920, and attended and graduated from the Dickens School. All who knew him in his civilian life were his friends and he served with valor in the armed forces.

Survivors include his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fon Shaw, seven brothers and four sisters: Gustin, T.B., Darrall, Dean, Donnie, Carl and Dennis, sisters: Lilllie Mae, Flora Lee, Marie and Corine Shaw of Dickens.

Interment was in the family burial plot in the Dickens Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were members of the V.F.W. and American Legion.
