Reburial Rites Held for Dickens Veteran Tuesday

U.S.Flag  Reburial services for Sgt. Merle Futch, Dickens youth who was killed in action in Italy in 1944, were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, in the Dickens Baptist Church, with Rev. H.L. Burnham, officiating.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.Graveside services were conducted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts of Spur and Dickens.

Pallbearers were T.W. Dodson, Clyde White, Curtis Nolan, Johnny Cumbie, Jr., Kenneth Street and Cecil Hughes Meadows, all of Dickens.

Sgt. Futch is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. H.L. Futch, Dickens; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Bilberry and Miss Nan Jo Futch, Dickens; two brothers, Raymond Futch, Spur and H.L., Jr. now with the U.S. Army in Alaska; grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. D.H. Gage of Dumont and Mrs. J.L. Futch, Lamesa.
