Ross & Shall will be doing $1,000 worth of repairing in the way of painting, papering and otherwise improving the Methodist church.

Mr. Alex May, Jr. has leased the Lawrance building on Grand Avenue and will as soon as practicable open a Gents furnishing Goods Store. Mr. May has been in business in Yoakum since his boyhood and knows the people and the business. He has been the ju­nior partner in the H.C. Koch & Co. business here for many years. This firm dissolved by mutual consent last week.

The partnership existing between John W. Tooke and E.G. Majors under the firm name of the Mission Drug Store was dissolved Friday. Mr. Tooke retires from the firm leaving Mr. Majors in charge.

Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Smith will celebrate their 50th wed­ding anniversary on January

14. They started in the married life in Lavaca County when as a county it was young. Mrs. Smith was a Tandy before her marriage, one of the pioneer familes of the county. This good old couple have lived in Yoakum since 1888, during the town's infancy.

The Yoakum Improvement Co. is progressing nicely with the work of putting down the new six inch mains. The line on Coke Street beginning near W.L. Orth's residence and back to Cemetery street, up Ceme­tery to Whitfield, thence to the Hubbard and then to the con­nection with the Orth street main laid last year has been finished.

A deal has just been com­pleted whereby Mr. J.J. (Dad) Connolly sells his store on Front Street to Mr. R.U. Bar­clay. Mr. Barclay will take charge at once and Mr. Con­nolly will move back to his farm down near Hope. Mr. Barclay bought the Emmett May home on West Gonzales Street.

H. Rittner, who has been manager of the Dees Mercan­tile Co., since that firm located in our city and manager for the J.A. Graves Company for several years, has tendered his resignation to the Dry Goods firm. He has accepted a posi­tion with the Yoakum National Bank.

J.A. Lander is treating the Yoakum House, corner Front and Nelson streets to a coat of fresh paint.

The Herald has established as a feature of its contents a "want column" in which will appear in the future all such notices as For Rent, For Sale, Help Wanted, etc.

                                                       Weddings

Miss Minnie Stevens and Mr. Geo. Marie were married Dec. 30 and will live in Cuero.

Miss Dora Anthony and Mr.Grover Newsom were married Sunday and will live in Yoakum.

Miss Annie Pargmann and Mr. August Gerdes were mar­ried Thursday and will make their home on a farm near the Morris School house.

Mr. Willie Rossow and Miss Helene Wefer, of Dreyer were married on the 10th. This happy young couple will make their home on a farm near Cost, in Gonzales County.

Mr. Joe Bader and Miss Gussie Dunn were married January 16. Her parents settled here long before the city of Yoakum was dreamed of. In fact, the land in the Southern and Western portion of the town belonged to them in the days before railroads were known here.

Mr. H.D. Jennings and Miss Lee Bethel were married in San Antonio Sunday.

Mr. Henry Quota and Miss Grace Russell were married today.

Mr. and Mrs. M.T. Siever announce the arrival of a baby girl weighing 9 pounds.

Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Koch are rejoicing the arrival of a fine new son.

Dr. and Mrs. S.S. Stahl announce the arrival of a fine 10 1/4 pound boy at their home today.

                                                            Deaths

Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Sutton's six week old son passed away Jan. 12. He was buried in the city cemetery.

Mr. H.H. Dyer, 76, passed away Sunday. He was buried in the city cemetery. He has lived in Lavaca County for more than 25 years and resided at Hope for the past 8-10 years. He was a civil war veteran.

Mr. Frank F. Jacony, 34, passed away Monday.
