Sept. 26, 1940

Taken by Death, Yoakum Pioneer: “Dock” Franklin Sistrunk, aged 80 years, passed from this life after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Sistrunk was born on April 8, 1860, and moved to this area when he was 18. On Jan. 29, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Deborah. They had three sons and three daughters. He was a farmer until 1903, and then served as a peace officer as City Marshall for fourteen years.

 

Oct. 14, 1940

 

Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Barnett have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Maurine to Mr. Rudy Gaetner. The wedding will take place on Oct. 29.

 

Syril Kaiser, daughter of Mrs. C.E. Kaiser, and Raymond Hermes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hermes were married on Oct 15, 1940

Weddings: Miss Sue Thigpen to Mr. Charles Edwin Munson: Miss Edith Kasparek to Mr. Ben Caka; Miss Carolyn Sengle to Mr. Lee Littlefield

 

Births: Mrs. M.Z. Burns and infant daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nealy announce the arrival of a six pound baby boy; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Kahanek are the proud parents of a seven pound baby boy; Mr. and Mrs. P. Holster are the proud parents of a ten pound baby girl.

 

Deaths: Mrs. Minnie L. McGarahan. She came to Yoakum in 1893.; Mrs. Libbie Casterline Turner. She came to Yoakum in 1906.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oct. 28, 1940

Weddings: The marriage of Miss Mary Emolene Hinds, daughter of William Thomas Hinds, formerly of Yoakum, to Dr. Arthur George Owen, son of Mrs. Mary L. Owen was quietly solemnized at the home of the bride’s father.

 

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Turbeville of Dallas, announce the arrival of a seven pound baby girl born Sunday morning. Mother and baby are getting along nicely.

 

 

Nov. 2-4, 1940

 

Anniversaries: Mr. and Mrs. John L. Hermes of Koerth celebrated their Golden Anniversary.

 

Showers: A miscellaneous shower was given at the home of Mrs. W.S. Moore of Dreyer, honoring Mrs. Enos Birmingham, a recent bride.; Miss Nannie Ray Baker entertained with a dessert party and a triple shower, honoring  Miss Maude Winfree, Mrs. Gordon Vrazel, and Mrs. Charles Munson.

 

Weddings: Mrs. Elmer Thomas Neill to Miss Frances Keeling; Mr. Ambrose Valenta to Miss Mary Maude Winfree; Mr. Alvin Schroeder to Miss Bertha Schlenker.

 

Births: Mr. and Mrs. John Machac of West May St. announce the arrival of a fine baby daughter, Tuesday at 8:40 p.m.. Mother and baby are well.

Wedding: Miss Johnnie Lou Dowlearn and Mr. Ervin Reinhardt were united in marriage on Oct. 31.

Weddings: Miss Frankie Smith became the bride of Mr. Philip Schoenberg on Nov 10th.; Miss Dorothy Immenhauser was united in marriage to Mr. Rex Moore on Oct 26th.; Miss Virgie Castellow married Mr. Joe Peters on Nov 17th.

Weddings: Miss Lydia Electra Butler became the bride of Jack Hamilton Boothe on Nov 17th.

 

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Adan Frank of Rt. 3 , are the proud parents of a nine pound baby boy born to them Sunday night.; Mr. and Mrs. L.D McFarland announce the birth of a 7 pound 14 ounce baby boy, Monday.
