WEEKLY HERALD

April 6, 1911

The old buildings on the Jamison lot, comer Grand Avenue and Lott Street have all                                    been torn down, except the galvanized iron part of the corner building. This part will                                                 be moved tomorrow by Pruetz Bros. to the Yoakum Gin property on Irvine Street.

The Lane Hotel was alright in its day but the town has outgrown it. Just last night, with no unusual attractions in town, people were place on cots in the parlor and others turn away from the Hotel.

A deal has just been closed by which F.S. Mason becomes owner of the property on Front Street occupied for many years by Roos Bros. and more recently by Edwards, Cox & Gilbert. The property consists of two lots fronting 100 feet on Front Street and both are covered by single story brick

buildings extending back some 100 feet. The second building, or the one formerly occupied as vehicle and implement room Mr. Mason has leased for a garage and machine shop.

Mr. Ph. Welhausen received a letter from the census director announcing the population of Yoakum to be 4657. The population of this city in 1900 was 3,499.
