Nose Count of Texas School Children Begins Enumeration of Texas school children began Wednesday throughout the state in both independent and common school districts. All children who have reached the age of six years and who have not passed their 18 year on September 1, will be enumerated according to W.F. Hancock, County Superintendent Census enumerators for the common school districts were announced by the county superintendent. DeWitt County has 28 common school districts and four independent districts. Enumerators for the common school districts are : George Lord, Cheapside; Mrs. W.H. Laster, Valley View; Mrs. S.P. Olenick, Westhoff; Edgar Natho, Lindenau; H.M. Seiffert, Davy; Otto Koopman, Weldon; Alfred L. Simecek, Friedland; Henry Leick, Garfiled; Edwin Schroeder, Gohlke; Ernest J. Strum, Clinton; Victor Goebel, Green, DeWitt-Arneckeville; E.A. Bitterly, Meyersville; G.S. Braden, Hochheim; Harry Polzin, Hochheim Prairie; Emil Kuck, Lone Tree; Lee Pargmann, Morris; S.J. Morrow, Stratton-Terryville; R.R. McElroy, Concrete; T.F. April 1 is the deadline for completion of the enumeration.

Death Takes Mrs. Hoehne: Mrs. Bertha Hoehne, 78, lifelong resident of DeWitt County, died Wednesday morning at 12:19 o�clock in a local hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Hoehne was visiting her granddaughter, Mrs. Leona Powell, in Kenedy when she was stricken last Friday. She was brought to Cuero Monday afternoon and taken to a local hospital where her condition was described as critical. Mrs. Hoehne was born August 19, 1871 at Yorktown, Texas, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Lebrecht Boldt who had come to this country from Germany. Mrs. Hoehne was the last surviving member of the Lebrecht Boldt family. She was married to Frederick Hoehne, December 7, 1889, at Yorktown and after their marriage Mr. And Mrs. Hoehne moved to the Clear Creek Community where they lived until Mr. Hoehne passed away August 17, 1945. To them were born four children three of who survive, two sons and one daughter, Henry of Cuero, Joseph of Runge, and Mrs. Lebrecht Pieper of Cuero. Surviving also are ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o�clock from he Freund Funeral Home with Tev A. A. Hahn officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Miss Sitterle To Be In TSCW Stunt Night Denton, March 1-Texas State College for Women�s annual stunt nights are scheduled for March 3-4 and participating in the freshman stunt will be Miss Taluh Ann Sitterle daughter of Mrs. Carrie Miller, Cuero, Route 4. The inter-class competition event began with a circus frolic by the �Middlers� class at TSCW some 38 years ago. It became all-college in 1938 when a silver loving cup was presented for the first time to the winning class.????

OFF NEWS Relatives from here attended the funeral of Wm. Koeninng at Floresville Wednesday. Miss Auldred Jean Hillbrich from here and Nolan Wendel of Cuero were quietlymarrie din Cuero Saturday evening at 7:30 in the Lutheran church. Attendants were Erwin Hilbrich, brother of the bride and Mrs. Reuben Weischwell sister of the groom. Only the immediate families were present. After a brief honeymoon the couple will be at home in Cuero where the groom is employed at Ferguson�s. Mr. And Mrs. A.J. Mueller observed their birthday anniversaries Friday and Sunday. Out of town guests for the days were Mr. And Mrs. Eddie Henricks, Mrs. And Mrs. Edgar Henricks and son of Moulton, Mr. And Mrs. Emil Lahotny and son of Shiner, Mr. And Mrs. Pete Dlugosch of Cuero. Mr. And Mrs. Raymond Hilbrich and children of McAllen were week end guests here with relatives. They were accompanied back by Ruby Lee Hilbrich. Mr. And Mrs. Perry Lee Gary and daughter of San Marcos were also weekend visitors here. Elroy Hahn of Elmaton spent several days here with his aunt, Mrs. Martha Hilbrich. Friends and relatives called on Mr. And Mrs. Herman Wagner on Friday to wish Mr. Wagner a happy birthday. Relatives and friends motored over to Lindenau to help Mrs. Fritz Afflerbach celebrae her birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Parker and children of Houston spent several days here with relatives.Mr. and Mrs. R. Knippa of Yoakum visited in the Edwin Hilbrich home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mueller were Thursday visiors in the Otto Fertsch home. Mr. And Mrs. Walter Gaedke spent Sunday evening in Nordheim. Mr. And Mrs. Otto Hilbrich and Mrs. W.B. Meischen were in Cuero Monday. Mr. And Mrs. Hilbrich visited her brother Victor Afflerbach who is in the Cuero Hospital and Clinic suffering with virus pneumonia. Mr. And Mrs. Knox Kaedling had as visitors over the week end their children. Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Veit had as Sunday guests Mr. And Mrs. Walter Luersen and son of Kyle and Mr. And Mrs. R.A. Krause and family of Yorktown.

We are having pretty spring weather. The farmers are getting ready to set out their tomato plants in the field. Mrs. Willie Coffal of Mathis, Mrs. Annie Hartmann and daughter of Gillette and Mrs. Bell DuBose of Yorktown were brief callers in the W.H. Wood home Saturday. Mr. And Mrs. Raymond Hanna and the writer spent Sunday with Mr. And Mrs. Harley Shows. Mr. And Mrs. Jerry Hahn and children of Tarcliffe spent the week end with their mother, Mrs. F.A. Broll. Mr. And Mrs. Walter Woods of Cuero spent Sunday with uncles and aunts, Messrs. W.H. Wood and J.N. Wood and Misses Nannie and Mary. Mrs. Frona DuBose and daughter, Mrs. Iva Bell Dittfurth and little daughter, Iva Jo attended church at Rabke Sunday afternoon. Mr. And Mrs. F. Burds and children visited in Houston over the week end. Mr. And Mrs. Anton Kozielski of Cabeza were guests in the J. Broll home Sunday. Mrs. C. Lincke and little daughters of near Sandy Gate visited with Mrs. Ramond Hanna and the writer Saturday. Congratulations to Mrs. Harley Shows on her birthday Feb. 24th and Mrs. And Mrs. Raymond Hanna and Mrs. And Mrs. Emil Jaeger on their wedding anniversaries Feb 26th and Feb. 28th.

STRATTON, (Mrs. S.J. Morrow) We had a good rain last Tuesday and lots of tomato plants are being set in the fields. Farmers are busying preparing their land for spring planting. Mr. And Mrs. Willie D Taylor and son, Mrs. Ovella Chapman and Mrs. Mide Morrow of Kingsville visited relatives in our community Thursday. Mrs. M. Morrow returned home after a few days visit with her daughter, Mrs. L.C. Boothe. C.E. Meyers, Clem Parker and John Wallace are all enjoying the use of new trucks, purchased recently. We are glad to report Mrs. Louis Parker able to walk again after suffering so long with a badly burned foot. Also Frances Morrow is back in school after a mild attack of mumps. The Home Demonstration club is to have its regular social meeting at the Stratton School house next Friday night. A pot-luck supper will be served. Everyone is invited.

WESER, (Rubie Lena Gisler) Mrs. Roman Bethke entertained a group of little folks Saturday afternoon with a birthday party in honor of her son, Roman Lee, who was 9 years old on Feb. 22. After playing games a delicious lunch was served consisting of a pretty birthday cake, cookies and soda water. Those coming to wish Roman Lee a happy birthday were Harold and Nancy Baecker, Arlis and Judy Adickes, Verline and Atha Lee Jacob, Mary Jean Duderstadt, Leota and Aldon Bade, Arlene Krueger, Glen Edward Lemke, Glenda and Billy Dornburg, J.A. Sterling Mueller of Victoria left Thursday morning for Chicago to enter a G.I. School of refrigeration, his wife and daughter are staying at present with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Ed Brandt. A baby boy was born to Mr. And Mrs. Cotton Ohrt on Feb. 22. Congratulations. Congratulations to Mrs. Cotton Ohrt who observed her birthday on Feb. 20.

NORDHEIM, (Mrs. Pat Riley(?) Cor) Mrs. Margaret Schneider, daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. Wm. Schneider of Nordheim was united in marriage with Walter Seifert of Shiner at a ceremony performed by the Rev. Rudolph Hoffman at the Catholic Rectory in Runge Tuesday morning Feb. 21st. Congratulations. As a birthday compliment to their mother, Mrs. Lena Mueller of Yorktown. Her children entertained with an open house at the attractive home of Mr. And Mrs. Frank Gips, Jr., at Nordheim Sunday. Numerous relatives and friends called during the afternoon and evening hours to extend congratulations. Nelson Huck entertained a group of relatives and friends at his home Saturday evening in honor of his birthday anniversary. Mrs. Bertha Mueller was honored by her daughter and son-in-laws, with a beautifully appointed dinner Sunday on the occasion of her birthday anniversary and Miss Georgia Mae Stoever was hostess to a number of relatives and friends Sunday on the happy occasion of her 18th birthday anniversary. Belated birthday greetings to our young friend, Arlen Hugh Rogge, who observed his 15th birthday anniversary this past week. Congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. O. J. Janssen, Jr., proud parents of a pretty baby daughter which arrived in a Cuero hospital the past week elating Mr. And Mrs. O. J. Janssen, Sr., to the grandparents class for the first time and Mr. And Mrs. John Wendt to the great-grandparents class. Mrs. E. H. Wied graciously entertained the members of the Ace High Bridge club at her spacious home the past week. Mrs. Dan Burow entertained at her country home with a Mexican supper and 42 party Tuesday evening in honor of her birthday anniversary. Mrs. And Mrs. Calvin Karnei had their baby daughter baptized at St. Paul�s Lutheran Church Sunday morning with the Rev. Wm. Durkop officiating. At a business meeting and rehearsal Wednesday night of the Nordheim Brass Band the following officers were elected: Bruno Morrisse, director; Chas. Meichan, manager; Albert Stirl, assistant manager; Eddie Stoever, Treasurer and Harold Stirl, Secretary. The Misses Betty Mae De Reese and Audry Stratman college students of San Antonio were week end guests of their parents, Mr. And Mrs. Albert De Reese and Mr. And Mrs. Paul Stratman. Mrs. And Mrs. F. A. Reidesel are spending a week in New Braunfels with Mrs. And Mrs. M. A. Cook and family. Mrs. Emma Duve and Miss Ida Schmidt attended the funeral of a cousin at Schulenburg Friday. Mrs. E. C. Eccell of San Antonio were here the past week visiting with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. W. Wagner. Pleased to report that Mrs. D. C. Scheffler is convalescing nicely in a Cuero hospital following a recent surgery and that Miss May Ladner has recovered sufficiently to return to her home from a Cuero hospital the past week. Mrs. E. D. Janssen spent several days in San Antonio the past week visiting with her mother, Mrs. Lillie Pape. Mrs. F. J. Jaromsbek spent Tuesday in Hobson visiting with her parents, Mrs. And Mrs. Louis Snoga. Mrs. Earline Doyle and Hames Talk of Houston spent the week end here with their parents, Mr. And Mrs. O. P. Talk at the Talk Ranch. Mrs. And Mrs. Newfry Woytasick and son of San Antonio were week end guests of her parents, Mrs. And Mrs. Basil Dreyer. Staff Sgt. John Musick, left Sunday for his base in Mississippi after an enjoyable visit here with Mrs. Musick and his children. We extend congratulations to our good neighbor, Mrs. Josephine Wagner who had a birthday anniversary Saturday. To the family of H. A. Steurmer who passed away in a Cuero hospital the past week we extend our most sincere sympathy.

CLEAR CREEK Housewives have been taking advantage of the past week of sunshine to plant spring gardens and flowers. The sunny skies, which have prevailed are now overcast by cloudiness. Miss Wanda Kueker, 4-H sponsor of Lindenau and Mrs. Bruce Card attended a Camera demonstration sponsored by the DeWitt HDC at the Tiffin Studio one day last week.� The home of Mrs. And Mrs. Fritz Afflerbach was the sceen of a gay get-together Sunday afternoon when friends and relatives called to wish Mrs. Afflerbach a happy birthday. Bruce Miller, A&M student, returned to College Station Sunday after spending the weekend with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. H. B. Miller. Mr. And Mrs. Elo Arndt were in San Antonio Monday. They went up to sell two truck loads of calves which they had no feed for the past several months.

EMPLOYED Miss Virginia Mae Becker, who is now employed under the supervision of Mr. J. Welhausen in Crediting Department of Tex-Tan of Yoakum, is a graduate of the Baldwin Business College, Yoakum, Texas. Virginia completed the Stenographic course and also studied the sole proprietorship and partnership accounting. While attending Baldwin�s she was Secretary of the Baldwin Student Club. Virginia�s parents are Mrs. And Mrs. Herbert Becker.

J. W. Jackson Retiring April 1 as County Agent DeWitt County Agent J.W. Jackson, who has been in that post for the past 11 years, will retire April 1, it has been announced. Jackson has indicated he plans to remain in Cuero following his retirement bur other than that, his future plans are indefinite. He is one fo the oldest county agents in Texas from the standpoint of service. His record with the A. & M College System dates back to September, 1913, when he became connected with the research division of the college at Angleton Experiment Station. Jackson served for brief periods at Beaumont and Troup before becoming superintendent of the Pecos Station early in 1915, where he served for five years. He began with the Extension Service in May, 1922, in Crosby County and later served in Somervell, Parker, Brooks and DeWitt counties.
