Silas WheelerU.S.Flag Services for Silas Tom Wheeler, 85, of Cone, will be held Monday, December 27, 2004 at 4:00 PM at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls with Rev. Ken Bevel and Rev. Larry Carson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Silas passed away Thursday night, December 23, 2004 at the Ralls Nursing Home with his family by his side. Born January 25, 1919 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas to Willie Oren and Clara Edna Holcomb Wheeler, his family moved to Crosby County when Silas was 3 weeks old. He attended school for 9 years at Cone then 2 years in Ralls, graduating from Ralls High School in 1937. On January 20, 1938, in Cone, he married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Ophelia Fuller. And it was there in Crosby County where Silas farmed and ranched throughout his life. He was a member of the Ralls First Baptist Church and a former member of the Cone School Board. He also served in the Marine Corps during WWII.

Silas and Margaret shared an active life. Together they enjoyed traveling, gardening and their peaceful life in the country. Silas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. And with his good humor and gentle nature, he always provided his family with encouragement and support.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wheeler; his daughter, Jeanette Wilson; his grandson, Rob Wilson; and his sister Jelora James. He is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Wheeler; his sister, Margie Harmon; and his son-in-law, George Wilson, who passed away November 10, 2004.

The family suggests memorials to the Ralls EMS Fund, 801 Ave. I in Ralls or to the Ralls Nursing Home, 1111 Ave. P, Ralls, Texas 79357.
