Rex Wheeler Services for Rex Wheeler, 92, of Crosbyton were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 1996 in the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Woodward, pastor, and Rev. Johnnie Williams, a retired Methodist minister from Lubbock officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Mr. Wheeler died at 8 a.m. Monday, August 5, 1996 in the Crosbyton Nursing Home following an illness.

He was born April 26, 1904 in Emma.

He married Treacie Gallimore Brackeen September 6, 1939. She preceded him in death May 16, 1959 in Crosbyton.

He then married Naomi Reed Marsh June 3, 1960. She preceded him in death June 24, 1986.

He was a 1922 graduate of Robertson High School, then attended Clarendon College. In 1926 he enrolled at Texas Technological College.

He began farming in Crosby County in 1931. He installed one of the earlier irrigation systems on his land and was innovative in experimenting with production methods of higher yield crops.

He served one term on the Crosbyton School Board, 12 years on the Crosbyton Farmers Cooperative Gin Association Board of Directors, 6 years as community committeeman on Agriculture Stabilization Board of the Crosbyton I.S.D.

He was an active member of the Crosbyton United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and has served on the board of Stewards.

He is preceded in death by a son; W.F. (Bill) Wheeler; three brothers, Ralph Wheeler, Curtis Wheeler, and Horace Wheeler and by two sisters, Esther Grace Wheeler and Ruth Adams.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Wheeler of Crosbyton, and Edwin Wheeler of Irving; three step daughters, Melba Hines of Crosbyton, Jody Baccus of Lockney, and Oleta Wheeler of Crosbyton; three sisters, Lola Smith of New Home, Jessie Aycock, and Marcia Lockwood, both of Lorenzo; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
