LUBBOCK — Johnny Ray Watson, 63, of Lorenzo, passed away on Jan. 21, 2014. Johnny was born on July 3, 1950, in Crosbyton, Texas, to the parentage of Johnny Leonard Watson and Charlene Watson.
Johnny graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1968 and attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. In 1971, Johnny answered God's call to travel and sing, spreading the gospel through music all over the U.S., Canada and numerous other countries. While performing at his home church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lorenzo, with the family group, The Soul Savers, Johnny met Brinda Kay Walker and united in holy matrimony in 1974. To this union, they were blessed with three children and raised five children in all.
Johnny was preceded in death by: his father, Johnny Leonard Watson; his brother, James Ray Watson; and his sister, Wilma Jean Watson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Brinda Kay Watson; his mother, Charlene Watson; five children, Anthony (Chandra) Watson, Malcolm Watson-Nelson, Shpwan Rayett Watson, Lloyd Byron Watson and Lisa Tramaine Wright; fourteen grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.
Celebration of life services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Rall Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
