RALLS (Special) — Services for John W. Thomas, 83, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russ Byard, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

Thomas died at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Wellington and moved from Turkey to Ralls in 1931. He married Hazelle King on June 8, 1929, in Wellington. He was past president of the Ralls Chamber of Commerce, Ralls Rotary Club, Ralls Historical Museum and the Texas Avion Travel Club. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a farmer and a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board and taught Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John W. Jr. of Ralls and Jean Charles of Lubbock; a daughter, Anne Christian of Claude; a brother, Zook of Wellington; and eight grandchildren.

Services for Hazelle King Thomas, 95, of Ralls will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at the Ralls First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Horn and the Rev. Larry Reed-Farris officiating. Burial will be in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

She died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at her home in Ralls. She was born Nov. 27, 1908 in Farmersville, Texas to John Cleveland and Dora Mae Benson King. She married John William Thomas on June 8, 1929. He died on April 16, 1991.

She was a graduate of Claude High School and the College of Industrial Arts in Denton, which is now Texas Women's University. She moved to Ralls in 1944 from Kansas. She was a member of the Ralls First United Methodist Church, the Ralls Garden Club, the Ralls Study Club, and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the PTA and served as an officer at the local and district levels and was an officer of the Avion Travelcade Club.

Survivors include two sons, John Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Mary Nell of Wolfforth and Jean Charles Thomas of Lubbock; a daughter, Anne Christian and her husband, Tom of Claude; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to High Plains Epilepsy Association, 5121 69th St. Ste. 702 B, Lubbock, Texas 79424 or National Multiple Sclerosis Society Panhandle Division, 6222 Canyon Dr., Amarillo, Texas 79109 or Ralls First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 447, Ralls, Texas 79357.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Richard Christian, Tom Hayden, Joe Christian, Jeremy Thomas, Derek Thomas, Jason Thomas and Randy Nuttall.

Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Frances Anne Nuttall, Mary King Hayden and Marci Thomas.
