Obituary

RALLS (Special) — Services for Jewel Sumpter, 73, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ralls with the Rev. Lee Fuller officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sumpter died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Howe County Sept. 17, 1908, and moved to Ralls from Wichita Falls in 1961.

She married John Sumpter in Altus, Okla., Jan. 17, 1947.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ralls and the Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Joe Popchoke of Ralls and Donald Popchoke of Altus; a daughter, Judy Sumpter of Ralls; a brother, Clarence Rutledge of Van Nuys, CA; two sisters, Vera Madore of Clark Mills, NY and Mattie Faucher of Altus; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.

The Montague native married Cora Frances Rutledge in Altus, OK, Jan. 17, 1947. She died Aug. 10, 1982. He was a mechanic and moved to Ralls in 1961 from Wichita Falls.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Sumpter of Ralls; two sons, Joe Popchoke of Ralls and Donald Popchoke of Altus, OK; three sisters, Grace Hughey, Bess Brown and Lela Clanton all of Stillwater, OK; two brothers, Jess of Apache, OK; and Bob of Stillwater; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
