Obituary

RALLS (Special) - Services for Vernie Woodrow Smith, 73, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. today in Ralls First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Morrow, pastor, and Tommy Allen of Lubbock, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died at 9 a.m. Friday in Lubbock's St. Mary of the Plains Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Ralls. He married Hazel Henry on July 6 1937, in Ralls. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and he was a member and deacon of Ralls First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry of Dallas; two daughters, Judy Morris of Rockwall and Bettye Sanders of Lubbock; two brothers, Tay of Las Cruces, NM, and Dick of Irving; a sister, Juanita of Ralls; and eight grandchildren.

Services for Hazel Smith, 74, of Ralls, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 1993 in the Ralls First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Morrow, pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Mrs. Smith died at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1993 in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born August 11, 1919 in Hill County, Texas and married Vernie Woodrow Smith on July 6, 1937 in Ralls. He preceded her in death, October 16, 1992.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Ralls First Baptist church and the Pastor's Sunday School Class. She was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years and was the Past President of Woman's Missionary Union.

She moved to Crosby County in 1921.

Survivors include 1 son, Jerry Smith of Dallas; 2 daughters, Judy Morris of Rockwall, Texas and Bettye Sanders of Lubbock; 1 brother, W. C. (Dub) Henry,Jr. of Morton; 3 sisters, Gladys Howard of Graham, Zonelle Myers of Fritch, and Maxine Thornton of Houston; 8 grandchildren, Blake Morris, Tara & John Norbeck; Scott Sanders, Susan Verni Sanders; Stuart Sanders, Amy Smith, Chris Smith and Kelly Smith and 1 great grandson, Kai Norbeck.

Pallbearers were Blake Morris, Scott Sanders, Chris Smith, John Norbeck, Al Thornton, John David Bryant, and Beecher Stotts. Serving as Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Cavozos, Jesse Reese, Clyde Crump and First Baptist Church Deacons and their wives.
