Ruby Smith

Rubye Smith, a former Crosbyton and Ralls nurse, was claimed by death about 8 a.m. last Thursday in Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington where she had been a patient several weeks. Mrs.Smith, 55, resided at 315 S. Durham in Crosbyton.

Memorial services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, of which Mrs. Smith was a member. The Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, and Loyd Hall, minister of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, officiated.

Interment was in Ralls Cemetery, under direction of King Funeral Home.

The deceased served as a nurse in Crosbyton from 1947 to 1961 and before that in Ralls for Dr. Snow and Dr. Spikes.

Born Jan. 12, 1919, in Stillwell, Okla., to the late E.G. and Nellie Bryan, the former Rubye Bryan moved to Ralls with her parents when she was one year of age.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Gene Smith of Mansfield and Garry Smith of Levelland; two daughters, Mrs. Carroll Hirst of Ralls and Mrs. Leon Layton of Arlington; three brothers, Audy Bryan of Ralls, Sam Bryan of Happy and Boyce Bryan of Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. Perry Anthony and Mrs. Fairy Strickland, both of Plains, and Mrs. Phillip Robertson of Batesville; and seven grandchildren.
