U.S.Flag Funeral services for Sidney W. (Bill) Shew, Jr., 32, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Vandelia Village Church of Christ at Lubbock. Bob Hover, minister, officiated.

Shew, a Lubbock County Deputy Sheriff died of an apparent heart attack about 10:15 a.m. after collapsing in the Lubbock court room where he was serving as court bailiff. He had been a Lubbock deputy since Jan. 1, 1959, and prior to that had served four years as a Lubbock police department patrolman.

Shew was a Korean War Army veteran, a member of Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Mackenzie Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Veteran's of Foreign Wars and member of Vandelia Village Church of Christ.

The deputy was a resident of Petersburg before moving to Lubbock in 1954, and was a former employee of Panhandle and Santa Fe Railroad at Ralls.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cynthia, 8 and Catherine, 6; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Shew, Ralls; a brother, Howard, Amarillo; and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Allen, Paris, Tex., and Mrs. Bernice Hardin, Lubbock, and a foster brother, Vertie Paul Hardin, Plainview.
