Joe RankinU.S.Flag RALLS � Services for Joe Rankin, 73, of Ralls will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ralls First Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Haddock officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home in Ralls.

He died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002.

He was born May 8, 1929, in Ralls. He married Beth Brasfield on Aug. 22, 1954, in Slaton. He was a graduate of Ralls High School and Texas Tech. He joined the Air Force in 1949 and served in Germany during the Korean War as a second lieutenant. He was a lifelong resident of Ralls and had been a private pilot for more than 20 years.

He was a member of Ralls First Baptist Church, the Ralls Rotary Club and a former member of the Ralls school board. He currently served as chairman of the Crosby County Democratic Committee and also had served as a delegate to the state and national convention Democratic conventions for several years.

He was a member of the Texas Farmers Union for 48 years � serving as president for 10 years and vice president for many years. At the time of his death, he was vice president of the Texas Farmers Union. He served on the Farm and Ranch Advisory Board under Gov. Ann Richards.

He was chairman of the board at the Plains Cooperative Oil Mill, served on the national board for Green Thumb for six years and also served on numerous co-op boards and did other work to preserve the family farm.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Roosevelt and David of Galveston; a daughter, Robin Flores of Mineral Wells; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
