RALLS (Special) - Services for James M. Rankin, 81, of Ralls will be at 3 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Ralls with the Rev. Dale Cain, pastor, officiating. The Rev. John Rankin, retired Baptist minister and brother of Rankin, will assist.Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Rankin died about 3 p.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock following injuries he suffered in a two-car accident about 11 a.m. Saturday in Ralls.
He was injured in an accident at the intersection of Highway 82 and FM 207. He was rushed to Crosbyton Hospital and later transferred to Methodist. No other injuries in the accident were reported.
A native of Milam County, Rankin moved to Ralls in 1912. He was the county veteran service office and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Khiva Shrine and chairman of the Crosby County Red Cross.
A former school teacher, he served as superintendent of Ralls schools and was a former county judge.
Rankin was a farmer. He received two degrees from Texas Tech University and attended Grenoble University in France and was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Veda; two sons, Joe of Ralls and Dr. Jean Rankin of 4004 69th St., Lubbock; three brothers, Rev. H.C. of Washington, D.C., C.G. of Brownsville and Rev. John S. of Lorenzo; a sister, Mrs. Grady O'Rear of Lorenzo; and six grandchildren.

Funeral rites for Mrs. J.M. Rankin, 74, longtime Ralls area resident, were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Emma Church of Christ in Ralls.Officiating were the minister, James Eubanks, and Dr. William S. Banowsky, minister of Broadway Church of Christ, Lubbock. Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rankin died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday in a Lubbock hospital after a long illness.
She had been a resident of the area since 1905, moving to Ralls from Tom Green County. She was born in Red River County Dec. 17, 1892. Her husband is a former Ralls school superintendent and former Crosby County Judge.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Joe Rankin of Ralls and Dr. Jean Rankin of Lubbock; one sister, Mrs. R.H. Banowsky of Fort Worth; and three grandchildren.
