Rosary for Joel R. Ramirez, 24, of Ralls was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, January 16, 1987 in St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Parampil officiating.

Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 1987 in the same church with the same officiant.

Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died Tuesday, January 13, 1987 in Lubbock General Hospital from injuries suffered earlier in the day in a motor vehicle accident at Muncipal Drive in the Amarillo Highway in Lubbock.

Ramirez was born in Crosbyton and had lived in Ralls all his life. He graduated from Ralls High School in 1981. While in school he was involved in the Future Teachers of America, National Honor Society and French Club. He was editor of the high school newspaper and was president of the Library Club.

He won the art student and citizen awards and was voted Mr. Future Teacher of American. He was in Who's Who in American High Schools. He worked for Case International in Lubbock and Ralls. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Men's Society and was on the parish council.

Survivors include his mother, Juanita Ramirez of Ralls; five brothers, Juan Jr. of Levelland, Julian of Mainz, West Germany, Jose of New Deal, and Jessie and Jorge, both of Ralls; and two sisters, Ophelia Minor of Ralls and Jo Ann Gonzales of Kingsville.
