Katherine Elizabeth Prewitt, 88, of Ralls passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Carillon House in Lubbock with her loving husband and family by her side.
Katherine was born January 2, 1917, near Nara Vista, New Mexico to Votie Anderson (V. A.) and Myrtle Mae (Thomas) Johnston. She moved with her family to Ralls in June of 1929. She graduated from Ralls High School in 1933 then from Texas Tech University in 1937 where she was a member of the Koshari Social Club, later known as Pi Beta Phi Sorority. On February 4, 1940 she married J.B. Prewitt, son of David Edward and Blanche Prewitt. At the close of WWII she and J.B. began farming in Cone, Texas. In 1949 they moved to Ralls and reared their three children. Katherine was very active in Girl Scouts, PTA, and the Ralls First United Methodist Church.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, V. A. and Mae; two sisters, Charlotte Johnston, Mary Francis Chesser and her husband Tommy; a nephew, Terry Chesser and a step grandson, Bryan Tomlin. She is survived by her loving family; husband of 65 years, J.B. Prewitt, a son and his wife, David and Sherry Prewitt of Ralls, two daughters and their husbands, Judith K, and David Tomlin of Midland and Joanne and Steve Gray of Ralls; grandchildren, Gregory Prewitt of Pleasanton, California, Yvonna Wurster Sheppard and husband Tommy of Midland, Texas, Paige Prewitt of Ralls, John F. Wurster and wife Tami of San Angelo, Texas; Geoff Gray and wife April of Seminole, Texas; Katherine R. Wurster of Midland and Barrett Gray of Lubbock. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Katrina R. Yarborough of Midland, James, Karyssa and Kaylin Wurster of Warner Robins, Georgia; Ciara Sheppard of Midland, Keldon and Kaighan Gray of Seminole; step great grandchildren Holly Sheppard of San Marcus, Nic Townsend of San Angelo, Heather Sheppard of Midland; a nephew, Mike Chesser of Austin, nieces, Francis Austin and husband Don of Lubbock and Marjorie Morris of Lubbock, Patsy Thomas and husband Tom of Arlington, Texas, Pat Chesser of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and many friends.
All who knew Katherine knew she was a hard worker and a great listener. She loved her family and was always there for them. She will certainly be missed by all. She and J.B. "felt they had been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in a community like Ralls."
A message from her family, "Mother, you are deeply loved by your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank you for your guidance and your example of what a mother should be."
Katherine's family would like to give their heart felt thanks to our private caregivers; Mary Martinez, Denise Rosemond, Evelyn Brown and Sylvia Nino; also to the staff at Carillon, both assisted living and skilled nursing and a special thanks to Dr. Hal Green who has been their doctor over 40 years.
Pall bearers will be Eddie Verett, Larry Ashley, Davey Abell, Danny Abell, Buddy Hail, and Jim McDuff.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2005. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the Ralls First United Methodist Church with Bryan Wurster and Rev. Allen Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. The family suggests memorials to the Ralls First United Methodist Church, Box 447, Ralls, Texas 79357.

J. B. Prewitt, 96, of Ralls passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Carillon House in Lubbock. J. B. was born in Bronte, he married Katherine Johnston, daughter of V. A. and Mae Johnston. He worked in the United States Post Office until he volunteered for the United States Air Force before the attack on Pearl Harbor, serving from 1942 to 1945. At the close of World War II, they returned to Cone, Texas to farm. In 1949, they moved to Ralls and reared their three children. J. B. was active in Boy Scouts, First United Methodist Church, the community and school. In 1950 he and Earl C. Abell formed a partnership as Abell Prewitt Implement Company. Earl C. was a dear friend. With V. A., J. B. and Katherine became very active in the oil and gas business. In earlier days they played lots of bridge with their friends, they also loved fishing, until giving up their lake home at Toledo Bend in 1998. J. B. was preceded in death by his loving wife Katherine Johnston Prewitt on August 21, 2005. Also preceding him in death are his parents David Edward and Blanche Louvenia Gideon Prewitt; two brothers, Marvin and Ira, one sister, Grace Collier , a grandson, Bryan Tomlin, nephew, Terry Chesser and a niece, Marjorie Morris.
J. B. is survived by his loving family, a son David A. Prewitt and wife Sherry of Ralls; two daughters, Judith K. Tomlin and husband David of Midland and Joanne Gray and husband Steve of Ralls, grandchildren Yvonna Wurster Sheppard and husband Tommy of Midland, Gregory Prewitt and wife Eva of Pleasanton, Calif., Paige Prewitt of Ralls, John F. Wurster ad wife Tami of San Angelo, Bryan Wurster and wife Teresa of Aubrey, Texas, Geoff Gray and wife April of Seminole, Katherine R. Wurster and Kellie of Midland, Barrett Gray of Lubbock, Michael Willet of Houston, Mark Willet of Ralls and great grandchildren; Katrina Yarborough, James, Karyssa and Kaylin Wurster, Ciara, Holly and Heather Sheppard, Nic Townsend, Keldon, Kaighan, Keaton and Karson Gray and Hayden Willet. Also surviving are nephew, Mike Chesser of Austin, Nieces, Francis Austin and husband Don of Lubbock, Patsy Thomas and husband Tom of Arlington, Pat Chesser of Santa Fe, NM and many friends.
J. B. had a quick wit and sense of humor. He never met anyone he didn't like. He was so loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. "J. B. and Katherine felt they had been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in a community like Ralls." "Dear Father, give me the strength to fish for many years to come. Help me to use good sportsmanship and also to have fun. And when the final cast is made and the fishing pole laid down, I'll say thank you with a smile, death God and never with a frown. Please catch me in your landing net to take my final sleep, and then, oh Lord, may I be judged as big enough to keep."

Visitation will be held from 6-7 PM Monday at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Ralls First United Methodist Church with Bryan Wurster officiating. Services and burial in Ralls Cemetery are under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
