Services for Hazel Powell, 71, of Ralls were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 1988, in the Ralls First Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Haddock, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Hobbs, NM, and Dennis May, minister of the Emma Church of Christ in Ralls, officiating. Burial followed in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.Mrs. Powell died at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1988, in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Grow, Texas, and married Byron Powell Aug. 12, 1934, in Floydada. He preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1987. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ralls First Baptist Church. She moved to the Ralls area in 1940 from Mt. Blanco.
Survivors include three sons, Donnie Powell and Melvin Powell of Ralls; Elvis Dean Powell of Lazbuddie; two brothers, Kenneth Rogers of Albuquerque, NM, and D.F. Rogers of Temple, TX; four sisters, Opal Rogers, Frances Powell and Zelma Richardson, all of Floydada; Viola Burrows of Bay St. Louis MS; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
