Sam Poteet of Ralls was claimed by death at 5:40 a.m. Sunday at Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Poteet, 77, had been hospitalized since early October.Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Ralls First Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Jerry Poteet, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie.
Interment was made in Ralls Cemetery, under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 6, 1908, in Estelline, Mr. Poteet initially moved to Crosby County in 1919. He and the former Mary James were married in 1932 in Crosbyton.
He was a retired civil service employee, working at Reese Air Force Base for 13 years and at Dyess Air Force base near Abilene for 14 years. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers of America, Local 8019 in Abilene.
Mr. Poteet moved to Wolfforth in 1941, to Abilene in 1956 and to Ralls in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ralls.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Poteet of Lubbock and Don Poteet of Sulphur, LA; one sister, Inda Bownds of Ralls; four brothers, Horace of South Bend, Olen of Lockney, Odell of Lubbock and J.N. of Levelland; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
