Graveside services for Mary Poteet, 91, of Lubbock will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Ralls Cemetery with Joe Burks officiating. Mrs. Poteet passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Lubbock Hospitality House.
Mary Elizabeth (James) Poteet was born July 22, 1913 in Blue, Oklahoma. She was the last surviving daughter of R. L. "Bob" James and Laura Burton James, and the last surviving in-law of the ten children of S. C. and Mary Poteet. On May 13, 1932 she married Sammie Thornton "Sam" Poteet in Crosbyton. He preceded her in death November 10, 1985 after 53 years of marriage.
She attended schools in Oklahoma and Texas and remained a homemaker during her life-time. Hobbies included a love of quilting, sewing, reading Louis L'Amour novels, and a study of the Civil War. Having lived in Cone, Ralls, Abilene, Merkel and Trent, the last years were spent at Silvervillage in Lubbock.
Survivors include two sons; Don R. Poteet of Anchorage, Alaska, Rita Gale Poteet of Lubbock and Jim E. Poteet and wife Nancy of Lubbock, six grandchildren, Pam Valko of Beaver, PA., Danny Poteet of Reston, Virginia, Melinda Poteet Scott of Lubbock, Katherine Poteet of Addisdon, Tx, Charlotte Poteet of Lubbock and Cynthia Poteet of Anchorage, Alaska. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Kami Brock Land of Chicago, Il, Evan Poteet of Reston, Virginia, Sarah Brock of Kennesaw, Georgia, Allen D. Scott, III (Trey) of Pensacola, Florida, Sterling Scott and Winston Scott both of Lubbock, and two step grandchildren, Charles and Bryan Raubacker of Reston, Virginia.
The family suggests memorials to VistaCare (Hospice), 1010 Slide Road, Lubbock, Tx 79416.
