Memorial services for John Pinkston, 75, of Lubbock will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Ralls First United Methodist Church with Rev. Vance Mitchell officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. John passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Plaza Rehabilitation Center in Lubbock of a lengthy illness.
He was born September 25, 1934 in Littlefield to the late Horace and Ruby (Hammitt) Pinkston. The family moved to Ralls in the 1950's. John owned and operated Pinkston's Supermarket in Crosbyton and was active in the community for 25 years. John and Gary Mitchell also ran the Ambulance service in Crosbyton in the mid 1970's. He was a member of the popular Bluegrass group The Ramblin Rascals who were enjoyed by thousands in the West and Central Texas areas. John also played with the Blue Denim Band. He was a published song writer and had frequent publications of conservative views in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal.
Survivors include, two daughters, Cathy Gudgron of Lubbock, Marianne Pinkston, MD of San Antonio; a stepson, Bryan Patterson of Stamford; a brother, Kelton Pinkston of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Nadene Reese of Lubbock; his loving former wife and friend, June Pinkston of Lubbock and four grandchildren.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Rodney Reese, Dwight Waldo, LaWayne Tolbert, K. Don Spurgin, Tommy Williamson, George Witt, Gary Mitchell, Aiman Abdulbaki, Michael Mitchell and Jacky Dewbre.
The family suggests donations be made to the American Lung Association.
John was a loving and generous man who chose to donate his remains to the Texas Tech Health Science Center for study.
