Graveside services for Ava Nell Nelson of Lubbock were at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 4, 2006 in the Ralls Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Nell passed away, Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Whisperwood Nursing Home in Lubbock at the age of 85 years Nine Months and 25 days.

She was born May 3, 1920 in Commerce to the late Frank E. and Mae (Simpson) Pearson the oldest of five children. The family moved to Crosby County in 1926. Ava Nell graduated from Ralls High School in 1939 as valedictorian. On September 21, 1941 she married Philden "Curley" Nelson in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1993.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Ralls, Cone and Dickens. She worked for Ralls School system a bus driver and lunchroom attendant for 27 years. Nell had also worked in Dickens County as a school bus driver for Patton Springs schools for two years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, painting, reading, bingo and dominoes. Mostly she enjoyed her family.

She is preceded in death by her step mother Wilma Pearson, three brothers; Eldred Ernest, Bill and Murry Pearson, sister-in-law; Mary Davidson Pearson, sister and brother-in-law; Frances and B. E. Coward, grandson; Charley Randles and great grandchildren; Colt and Kaytlin Randles, and daughter Kay Nelson Harrison.

Nell had lived in the Whisperwood Nursing Home which was previously the Lutheran Nursing home since April of 1998.

Survivors include a son and his wife; Kenneth and Frances Nelson of Little Elm, a daughter; Barbara J. Lopez of Lubbock, an aunt; Faye Williams of Lubbock, a sister-in-law; Norine Swim Pearson of Kerrville, 11 grandchildren; David Randles, Daniel Westbury and David Hoople all of Lubbock, Sandi Westbury Norwood and husband George Norwood of Big Lake, Paula Harrison and husband Mike Jadlaski and Frank Harrison and wife Samantha all of Wichita Falls, Ramona Nelson and husband Shannon Cogburn of Lubbock, Ginger Nelson of Irving, Jason Nelson and girlfriend Danille of Hickory Creek and Mark Nelson of Little Elm, 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Nell will be missed by all. She was a hard worker, independent, a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She never met a person she didn't like.

Serving as pallbearers were: David Randles, Daniel Westbury, Mickey Jadloski, Jason Nelson, Mark Nelson and J.R. Norwood.
