Obituary

Don A. Murray, 75, Houston, early day South Plains resident, died of a heart attack early Tuesday in Houston.

Murray, a retired florist, was an uncle of Rex Wheeler, Crosbyton.

He was reared at Old Emma. His father, the late J. W. Murray, was editor of the Crosby County News, first newspaper on the South Plains.

While a young man, Don A. Murray was in the clothing business in Post. He was married to Miss Jennie Price at Post. Murray was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Methodist.

Funeral arrangements were still pending Tuesday.

He is survived by his widow and a sister, Mrs. R. M. Wheeler, Lubbock. Nieces and nephews include Rex Wheeler, Crosbyton; Horace Wheeler, Southland; Curtis Wheeler, Lorenzo; Ralph Wheeler, Edmonson; Mrs. Wilmer Smith, New Home; Mrs. J. W. Adams, Ralls, and Mrs. M. C. Aycock and Mrs. W. O. Lockwood, both of Lorenzo.

Mrs. Jennie May Price Murray, 89, member of a pioneer West Texas family, died about 4 a.m. Saturday in Medicenter in Wichita Falls following a six week illness.

Funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church here. The Rev. Vernon O'Kelley, minister, officiated.

Burial was in Ralls Cemetery with Carter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Murray was a member of a family which started one of the first papers on the plains at Estacado. The paper later was moved to Old Emma when the Crosby County seat was established.

A Fort Worth native, Mrs. Murray formerly resided in Post. She was married to Donald Murray there in 1916 and the couple moved to Houston in 1921 where they operated a floral shop.

Mrs. Murray's survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. R. M. Wheeler of 3016 23rd St., Lubbock; a niece, Mrs. Leta McKinnon of 2401 25th St., Lubbbock; and a nephew, Dale James of 4712 31st, Lubbock.

Grandsons of Mrs. Wheeler served as pallbearers.
