Obituary

Doris MimmsGraveside services for Doris M. Mimms, 87, of Lubbock, who died Aug. 7, will be at Ralls Cemetery at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, with arrangements by Agape Funeral Chapel.

Doris, who was born May 1, 1919 in East Texas but grew up in the Owens community near Ralls, married Sherman Mimms in 1941. They farmed near Holly, Colorado from 1945 until Sherman's 1967 death, when Doris returned to Ralls, where she lived until moving to Lubbock in 1999.

She is survived by her children, Don Mimms of Lubbock and Pat Burke of Connecticut; a sister, Gladys Cochran of Austin; 7 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents Berl and Titus Perkins of Ralls and sisters Mavis Benton, Christine Pace and Lorene Callaway.

Doris worked in Ralls stores for many years and was a long-time member of Emma Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, and serving old-fashioned meals and homegrown food.

Visitation among family and friends will be hosted by Emma Church of Christ immediately following graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Lubbock.
