Funeral services for Narvil Layer, 72, of Ralls were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Shackleford, the Rev. C. L. Adkinson and the Rev. Lee Fuller, officiating.Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.
He died at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Crosbyton Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Charleston, Texas. He lived in Ralls since 1952, moving from Cooper. He married Jessie Walker on April 1, 1933 in Durant, Okla. He was a farmer.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Garland of Lubbock, Eugene of Ralls and Donald of Idalou, and five grandchildren.

Services for Jessie Layer, 91, of Ralls, were held Monday, May 5, 2003, at the First Assembly of God Curch in Ralls, TX, with the Rev. Royce Combs officiating.Interment followed in Ralls Cemetery under the care of White Funeral Home of Idalou.
Mrs. Layer died Friday, May 2, 2003.
She was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Calera, OK, to the late John B. and Florence Malcomb Walker. She attended and graduated from Tuttle, OK, schools. She married Narvil Layer on Apr. 1, 1933, in Durant, OK.
The family moved to Ralls Jan. 1, 1952, from Charleston, TX. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Layer also worked for the Lorenzo Textile Mill for 12 years. After retirement, she began a new career in home health care which lasted 10 years. She was very active in home and community life and a devoted Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 17, 1984; a son, Donald Layer, in 1991; and one great grandson, Michael Andrew Bradley, in November of 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Garland D. Layer of Lubbock and Roy E. Layer, Sr. of Ralls; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Harold B. Walker of Coleman, OK, and a special nephew, Irvin Garrison of Muskogee, OK.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 4425 W. Airport Freeway.
