Services for Donald Ray Layer, 40, of Idalou were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 1991, in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Derrell Patterson, pastor of Littlefield's First United Methodist Church, officiating.

The Rev. Mark Wilson, pastor of Idalou's First United Methodist Church, assisted.

Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under direction of White Funeral Home.

Layer died at 10:52 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 1991, in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Cooper and moved from Ralls to Lubbock County in 1973. He married Cynthia Mitchell on June 15, 1973, in Idalou. He attended Texas Tech University. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Emma Lodge No. 931 and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, M'Kayla and Brianna, both of Idalou; his mother, Jessie Layer of Ralls; and two brothers, Garland of Lubbock and Eugene of Ralls.

Pallbearers were Joey Johnson, Randy Watson, Stacy Smith, David Hilton, Glen Lowe and Kent Manaker.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Leukemia Foundation.
