Obituary

RALLS (Special) — Services for Harold Dean Joyce, 66, of Ralls will be at 5 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. C.M. Fields and the Rev. Lee Fuller officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock after a brief illness.

He was born in Tinkersly. He married Grace Thomas in 1943 in Sonora. He was a farmer. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 931. He moved to Ralls in 1946.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Keith of Houston and Glenn of Ralls; a daughter, Susan Ireland of Lubbock; three brothers, Elton of San Angelo, Weldon of Fort Stockton and Jack of Big Lake; two sisters, Madge Hargrove of San Angelo and Roma Roberts of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

photoServices for Grace Joyce, 88 of Ralls, Texas will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 21, 2010 in the First Baptist Church of Ralls with Rev. Larry Carson and Rev. Floyd Haddock officiating. Interment in the Ralls Cemetery will follow the church service under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Grace was born November 6, 1921 in Odell, Texas to Ray and Carrie Lou (Boyd) Thomas. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Having grown up in a railroad family, Grace attended many different schools. Grace received her high school diploma and valedictory ranking from Sonora High School, Sonora, Texas in 1939. Grace then attended Sul Ross College in Alpine and received her degree and teaching certificate as an honor student in 1943. She married Harold Dean Joyce on June 3, 1943 and the two of them moved to the Ralls community in 1946, where they farmed until 1981. Grace and Harold Dean raised three children, Keith, Glenn and Susan. She went back to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where she obtained her master's degree in education with a specialty in remedial reading in 1970. She taught reading in the Ralls elementary school for 17 years before retiring in 1987.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband Harold Dean, who passed away June 8, 1986 and her son Keith who passed away on August 16, 2005.

Grace is survived by her two children, Glenn Joyce of Lubbock and Susan Ireland of Springfield, MO. Grace is also survived by a daughter-in-law Charlotte Joyce of Houston; two grandchildren, Bryan and Lisa and two great grandchildren, Sydney and Keegan.

Visitation for friends of Grace and family will be 10:00 AM till service time at the church.

Grace, having been a reading teacher and avid reader herself, the family suggests memorials to the Ralls Library at 813 Main, Ralls, TX 79357, Ralls First Baptist Church at P. O.
