On June 19, 1932 in Pheonix, Arizona, Edna Jane Tanner was born to Marvin Oliver Tanner and Sally Leonard (Kirkland) Tanner, the second of six girls. Jane graduated valedictorian of her class in 1949 from Mattson High School, Mattson, Texas. On June 10, 1949 she married Howard Gen Wheeler and began her life as wife, homemaker, and mother. She began her married life in Haskell, Texas. In 1954, Jane and Gene moved to the South Plains of Texas. Pettit, Texas is where Jane began a life long association with farming. On March 17, 1973, Jane married Gary T. Ivey in Levelland, Texas. They began their married life in Ralls, Texas. Like the Brady Bunch they combined her three girls and his three boys into one family. A couple of years into their marriage, the opportunity to live on the farm arose. They began Ivey Farms. Jane loved gardening, music, and reading. Janes passion was antiquing soon it would be Garys. They began to collect glass, lamps, cast iron skillets, and many other things. She supported Gary in all his ambitions from establishing Ivey Farms to his political endeavors to promote farming and cotton production. Jane worked to promote the Ralls Gardening Club, served on Crosby County Fair committees, represented the Republican Party at election poles, and worked the concession stand at the Ralls Rodeo for years.
