Walter Gillon Memorial Services for Walter Ellis Gillon, 62, of Ralls, were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the Ralls First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Hubbard, pastor, officiating.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

He died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at his Ralls residence.

He was born Sept. 11, 1937, in Lubbock. He married Mary Priddy on Aug. 30, 1958, in Ralls.

He was a member of the Ralls First United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher, United Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsor, choir director, assistant choir director and Finance chairman.

He was the business manager from the Ralls Independent School District and was active in many school functions, such as the Ralls Ex-Students Association, Band Parents, honorary member of the Future Farmers of American and was a bus driver. He was a member and served as past president of the Ralls Chamber of Commerce and was chosen as "Family of the Year" in 1979.

He was past president of the Ralls Rotary Club and was a director of Boy Scouts of America. He was a director and loan officer of the Floyd County Credit Union. He was an instructor of first aid, and Emergency Care Attendant and Emergency Medical Technician and was a volunteer with the Ralls Emergency Medical Service, had served as president of the Ralls EMS, and was a member of the South Plains Emergency Medical Service.

He lived in Ralls all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gillon, of Ralls; one son, Jimmy Gillon of Tomball, TX; two daughters, Jill Calderon of Ralls and Suzanne Comer of Lubbock; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Jay "Ronny" Gillon, who died Aug. 5, 1995.
