Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Amos passed Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his home on his farm in Lorenzo.

Amos was born in Champion, Texas on February 1, 1923, the fourth and youngest child of Henry Leroy and Oma (Coker) Garrett. He served in WWII, successfully flying 32 missions over Germany in B-17s as a Top Turret Gunner. After service to his country, Amos graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene in 1948. While in Abilene he met and married Billye Joyce Lenoir, an RN, at Hendricks Memorial Hospital. They moved to Lubbock where Amos worked for the IRS. In the ensuing years, he opened his own Accounting firm, Garrett Bookkeeping and Tax Service. He dearly loved his business and his clientele and worked everyday until he was 83. Amos said many times, "I love income tax season". Billye and Amos' marriage ended in 1972, and in 1976 Amos married Lucille Verkamp. They moved to his farm in Lorenzo where he remained after their divorce in 1990.

Amos delighted in being involved in the West Texas Cotton Agribusiness, and welcomed his son Phil into the family enterprise. Amos was an active member of the Ralls First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Herman D. Garrett, two sisters Lees Carter and Velma Butterfield and a son, Dale Scott Garrett in 1988.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Lynn and his wife Julia Garrett of Houston, two grandchildren from Houston, Gentry Marie Tyrrell and her husband Charlie, Clayton Scott and his wife Elizabeth Garrett.

Serving as casket bearers will be Clayton Garrett, Charlie Tyrrell, Dan Bell, Lewis Fish, Roy Norris and Steve Buxkemper.

The Family wishes to express their heartfelt, grateful appreciation to Amos' care provider, Carol Anne Manthei of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials to Plains Baptist Assembly Outreach Camp Fund c/o Ralls First Baptist Church, PO Box 667 Ralls, Tx 79357.
