Biography

William Thomas Easter, born January 11, 1877, and Suzie Emma (Squires) Easter, born May 28, 1879, were married at Albany July 12, 1899. They bought land along the Hubbard Creek between Albany and Breckenridge.

Their first son, Willie E. Easter, was born at Albany in 1901 and is now serving as Justice of Peace at Ralls. At Breckenridge in 1905 Gladys (Easter) Clark was born and now lives at Oakdale, California. Walter Easter was also born there and is a retired rancher living at Floydada. Gertrude (Easter) Savage was born while living in the same location and now lives in Strafford, Oklahoma. Blanche (Easter) Dunlap was born January 1, 1909 at the same location. She taught school in Crosby County, Caprock, Farmer, and Kalgary. She passed from this life in 1952. Arthur Carl Easter was born April 29, 1911 on Roe Ranch in the same territory. He now lives in Gaines County near Seminole. When Arthur was four months old, his parents and these five brothers and sisters loaded their belongings in a covered wagon and headed for the Plains. It took two weeks to make the trip. They ran into a big rain and it rained so hard they finally came upon a courthouse and took shelter with lots of other people traveling.

After lots of hardships, the family arrived and lived for a while with Uncle Tom Easter at Estacado while waiting on a job at Crosbyton. He worked for Bar-N-Bar Ranch and then for Julian M. Bassett. Another son was born while living there by the name of Loyd, nicknamed "Judge" by many. Loyd passed away in 1976 at Dallas. Also a daughter was born at Crosbyton and was named Louise (Easter) Green now living in Denver City.

The family´s next move was to the John K. Fullingim place now known to the family as the old Easter Place located 14 miles southwest of Ralls or five miles southwest of League 4 community. While living here, Thelma (Easter) Robinson was born September 28, 1919. She and her husband live on a ranch at Caddo, Oklahoma. Their last child, a son Robert, was born November 27, 1917 and died in 1932.

The family farm raised good gardens, cotton, corn, maize and sugar cane from which W. R. "Bob" made homemade syrup for the family and sold it all in gallon buckets and jugs for $1 each. The customer got to taste it by sticking his knife into it before he bought it. One time a batch of syrup went sour so he threw it out to the hogs. Yep, you guessed it - it made the hogs drunk.

The children attended school at Emma, League 4, and Robertson.

In the winter of 1928 the family moved to Caprock community 12 miles south of Ralls. Some of the children went to school at Caprock, Owens No. 2 and at Plum Creek (which was west of Caprock).

Their home was on the edge of the Caprock until June 19, 1935 when a storm blew in from the north and had a wicked tornado in it. They saw it coming and some took shelter under the beds and others protected their bodies by holding something over them. When the storm was over, it had taken the home and lives of W. T and Suzie Easter. One daughter, Thelma, only child living at home at the time, survived but will never forget that tragic day.
