James Sanford Dennard, a widely-known Ralls resident, was claimed by death at 1:17 a.m. Tuesday in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, after a lengthy illness. He was 71.Memorial services are planned for 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in First United Methodist Church in Ralls. The Rev. David Ray, pastor, and Elder Joe Jackson are to officiate.
Burial will be made in Ralls Cemetery, under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.
Born April 10, 1913, in Gainesville, he and the former Lillie Oline Cobb were married June 1932 in Cook County. They moved to Ralls in 1945 from Pilot Point.
Mr. Dennard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ralls, where he served as steward for several years.
He was a member and past president of Ralls Rotary Club, was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member and past master of Emma Lodge.
A charter member of the White River Water Authority board, he was the Texaco consignee in Ralls from 1945 until 1977.
While a Pilot Point resident, Mr. Dennard served on the city council and was a member of the volunteer fire department and Masonic Lodge. He was the Texaco consignee in that town.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie of Ralls; one son, Bob Dennard of Dallas; two daughters, Wanda Keller of San Antonio and Pat Drysdale of Lubbock; two brothers, Marvin Dennard of Bay City and Donald Dennard of Duncan, Okla.; one sister, Betty King of Mustang, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
