Biography

Ira B. and Zelma Mae Adkins Davis were born and reared in Haskell. They were married in 1939 at Stamford.

Ira. B., born February 12, 1919, is the eldest son of Ira and Era Davis. In the early 1950´s Mr. and Mrs. Davis lived north of Ralls where they farmed.

Mrs. Davis now makes her home in Haskell, Ira B. has one brother and two sisters.

Zelma´s parents were Dee Adkins and Lucy Harrell. Mrs. Harrell lives in Haskell. Zelma, born April 16, 1922, is the eldest of four children and the only daughter.

In 1946 Ira B. went into farming, having served two years on Guam while in the Navy. The Davises moved to Goodland in 1948 where they farmed the next eight years. In 1956 they purchased the Johnny Moses farm northwest of Ralls. Through the years their four children grew up here. Other land was and is farmed but this remained the home place until 1964 when they built a new home at 1301 Avenue N. and became residents of Ralls.

Ira B. and Zelma are members of First Baptist Church of Ralls. Their four children are: Gary Wayne, born April 22, 1940; Ira Ann, born January 3, 1948; Zelma Jan, born August 19, 1950; and David Royce, born May 21, 1952. All four children graduated from Ralls High School.

Gary married Frances Sechrist of Ralls on June 21, 1959. They have three sons, Gary Wayne, Jr., Larry Don and Jerry Glenn. Gary farms with his father.

Ann married David Abell of Ralls, April 6, 1968. They have two children, Amanda Royelle and Britton Dee, and live in Munday.

David married Virginia Dunn of Crosbyton, February 16, 1975. They have a daughter, Brandie Brooke. David also farms with his dad.

Jan makes her home in Ralls also.

The Ira B. Davis family have many found memories of their home town, Ralls.

Obituary

Zelma DavisRALLS (Special) — Services for Zelma Davis, 64, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Ray, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

She died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Haskell and moved to the Ralls area in 1956 from Maple. She married I. B. Davis on Sept. 29, 1939, in Stamford. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Gary and David, both of Ralls; two daughters, Ann Abell and Jan Davis, both of Ralls; three brothers, A.D. Adkins of Fort Worth, Wayne Adkins of Haskell and Billy Adkins of Austin; a sister, Belle Mer (remainder not clipped)
