Biography

Paul Franklin Davis was born June 13, 1893, at Luka, Mississippi. At the age of three months my daddy, Ruben Franklin Davis, put my mother, Martha Mathilda Flynt Davis, and me aboard a train with other Davis and Flynt relatives, bound for Dawson, Navarro County. Dad, having plenty of time before he got possession of his rented farm in Texas rode a mule and led a mule all the way to Texas. On Saturday nights he would stay with farmers who were strangers along the way. He attended church on Sundays and he would start out on his journey again on Monday mornings after paying for his weekend lodging.

At the age of six I drove horses pulling a wagon load of cotton to the gin alone. I was the eldest of four boys and three girls.

I married Altha Pearl Cox, born August 6, 1899 at Purdon on December 16, 1917 in Purdon Community.

Pearl was the daughter of A. G. and Laura Elizabeth "Betty" Stone Cox.

We moved to Farmer community, Crosby County, in 1924 and lived in the southwest house (which has been destroyed) of the White and Robinson Ranch.

We had two children: Wilmer Ray, born October 17, 1925, and died March 26, 1930 and Dorothy Fay, born May 20, 1927.

We moved to the Fred Shell farm one mile south of Cone, then seven or eight years later we moved back on the White and Robinson Ranch this time in the east house. We lived here until I moved to town in 1949. At this time I farmed the Grace land west of Ralls, three or four years, then farmed W. B. Chestine´s place northwest of Ralls. I retired from farming in 1956. Since retiring I have helped my son-in-law, Uel Arthur, during busy times on his farms, 10 years. (Written by Paul Davis)
