Sam CovingtonMemorial services for Samuel P. Covington were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnnie Williams, pastor, officiating. Mr. Covington had been a Crosbyton resident since 1938.

He was 78.

Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

The Old Emma native moved to Crosbyton in 1938 from California. He was a retired farmer and had previously worked in sugar manufacturing. He married Lucille Jacobson July 29, 1927, in Albert Lea, Minn.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include; two sons, Sam Covington Jr. of Lubbock and Phillip Covington of Belmond, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Ann Cornelius of Crosbyton and Mrs. Ella Jo Chote of Fort Worth; a brother, Woodrow Covington of Dana Point, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Sallie Warren of Fresno, Calif., Leta Covington of Verdugo City, Calif., and Mrs. Ella Jo Smith of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were: Dick Snodgrass, Jimmy Karr, Jimmy Dunn, Billie Cornelius, George McNeill, Billie Higginbotham, Bob Perkins, and David Collier.

CROSBYTON — Services for Lucille Covington, 94, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton with the Rev. Bud Kidwell officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

She died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at a Crosbyton hospital. She was born July 18, 1906, in Dows, Iowa, where she graduated high school. She attended college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Samuel Parks Covington on July 29, 1927, in Albert Lea, Minn. He died Feb. 27, 1977.

She moved to Crosbyton in 1938 from California. She was a member of the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church, where she attended the Opportunity Class. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Harmony Club. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Sam Jr. of Lubbock; two daughters, Ann Cornelius of Crosbyton and Ella Jo Chote of Fort Worth; a sister, Carley Igou of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
