Services for James T. "Jake" Couch, 61, of Ralls were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 1990, in the Emma Church of Christ with Kenneth Avaritt, Church of Christ minister from Benton, Arkansas, officiating.Burial followed in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.
Mr. Couch died at 9:19 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 1990, in Lubbock´s St. Mary´s Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Anton, TX. He married Billie Ruth DeFreese July 24, 1949, in Anton. She preceded him in death Jan. 30, 1984. He then married Doris Reed Nov. 18, 1984 in Ralls.
He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ in Crosbyton and was an evangelist and gospel preacher and led singing schools for several years.
He was Past President of the Ralls Chamber of Commerce and was the co-owner/operator of Couch´s Home and Auto in Ralls for the last 25 years.
He had previously worked for nine years for Pioneer Natural Gas in Lubbock. He moved to Ralls in April of 1963 from Dumas.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Couch of Ralls; one son, Rodney Couch of Ralls; one step-son, Randy Reed of Lubbock; two daughters, Connie Clark of Crosbyton and Diana Buck of Lubbock; three step-daughters, Linda Roboin of Durango, CO; Vickie Reeves of Benton, AR; Cheryl Hutton of Lubbock; one brother, Derrell Couch of Bayfield, CO; two sisters, Willa Johnson and Thelma Pritchard, both of Anton; 6 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
One sister, Mary Sue Couch preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to the James T. "Jake" Couch Athletic Scholarship Fund at the Security Bank in Ralls.
