Paul Eugene Cornelius (Gene), age 86, of Abilene, Texas passed from this world on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 2013 in Abilene, Tx. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 on December 27, 2013 at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Ralls Cemetery Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at the Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel in Abilene, Texas on Jan. 11, 2014 at 2:00. Tony Chron of Coppell, Texas will be officiating.
Gene was born to H.J. and Ione Cornelius in Mt. Calm, Texas on Jan. 20, 1927. The family moved south of Ralls in 1932. Gene served in the US Army from 1948-1951. After being a bachelor for 45 years, he married his angel, Berta Fay Chron, on Jan. 22, 1972. The 42 years that he was married to Berta were the happiest years of his life. They both loved to travel and went to all 50 states as well as overseas. Because of his love for farming, Gene dedicated himself to 42 years in farming in Crosby County. He was an avid golfer, and fisherman. He was a loving Grandfather and Papa to 11 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. Gene liked to play �88� and Joke with his friends and family. They were members of the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas and later the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas. Berta and Gene moved to the Christian Village in Abilene, Texas in 2009.
Those left to cherish his memories are one daughter, Debbie Thompson and husband Don of Mesquite; two sons, Tony Chron and wife Laura of Coppell, Kelly Chron of Ft. Worth; his 11 grandchildren, Cody Thompson and wife Robyn of Allen, Summer Fuqua and husband Brad of Abilene, Cade Thompson and wife Jamie of McKinney, Reif Chron and wife Meagan of Allen, Beau Chron and wife Carrie of Burleson, Tori Chron of Coppell, Riley Chron of Coppell, Nathan Chron and wife Carlie of Ft. Worth, Devin Chron of Ft. Worth, Dylan Chron of Ft. Worth, and Brooke Chron of Ft. Worth. He is survived by twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Ann Davis of Ralls and a brother Bob Cornelius of Bagwell, Texas.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents H.J. and Ione Cornelius of Ralls, Texas; his brother Herman Cornelius of Ralls, Tx and a great granddaughter, Charlotte Chron.
Serving as Pall Bearers are grandsons Cody Thompson, Reif Chron, Cade Thompson, Beau Chron, Riley Chron, Nathan Chron, Devin Chron and Dylan Chron. Honorary Pall Bearers are Clyde Crump, Donald Searsy, Edwin Foster, Joe Tarbet, Riley Turner and L.D. Phillips.
