FLOYDADA Kenneth Kenny Wayne Chance, 62, of Floydada and formerly of Ralls, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Services will be Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Floydada with the Rev. Les Hall of Floydada and the Rev. Rance Young of Silverton officiating. Burial will follow in Ralls Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Adams Funeral Home.
Kenny was born on April 6, 1950, to the late Raymond and Jo (Melton) Chance. He was raised on the Chance family farm in Owens and graduated from Ralls High School in 1968. After attending South Plains College, Kenny returned home to farm with his dad. In 2005, the Chance family was recognized at the Texas Family Land Heritage Ceremony honoring farms that have been in the family for over one hundred years. One of Kenny's greatest joys was working alongside his father and grandsons on the family farm. After moving to Floydada, Kenny still farmed while working at Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation. He developed a passion for horses and rodeo at an early age when he took up bareback riding and roping. His love of rodeo continued through his later years. It was through this hobby that he met the love of his life, DeLeeann Inscore, at a play day at Aufill's Rodeo Arena. Kenny and De were married on March 7, 1970, in Lubbock. They raised their two children, Melode and Randy, on the Chance family farm. Kenny was very involved in civic organizations in both Ralls and Floydada. He was a member of Young Farmers, Ralls Lions Club, Ralls Ex-Students Association, Ralls Volunteer Fire Department, and the Masonic Lodge in Floydada. He served as a 4-H leader in Crosby County for many years and received the Spur Clip Award for his dedication and service. Kenny and De were also recipients of the Crosby County 4-H Hall of Honor Award. He served as the swine superintendent at the Crosby County Livestock Show for many years and on the Ralls ISD school board and the Floyd County Friends board of directors. He also was an active member of Living Water Emmaus Community. He worked many walks and served as a lay leader. For the last 19 years of his life, Kenny's most important job was being Pop to his grandchildren. He traveled many miles supporting his two oldest grandsons at sporting events and livestock shows. He was always their biggest fan and looked forward to filling that role for his younger grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors today, Jan. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls.
He is survived by his wife, De of Floydada; a daughter, Melode Watson and husband Ed of Ralls; a son, Randy Chance and wife Haley of Lubbock; a brother, Gerald Chance of Keller; and five grandchildren, Dakotah and Huntor Watson of Ralls, twins Braydon and Brylie Chance, and Brody Chance, all of Lubbock.
Memorials can be made to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, 101 Pro Rodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. Pallbearers will be Wes Jones, John Wyatt, Jim Finley, Joe Max Harrison, Gene Chappell, Martin Warren, Clabourne Beshirs and Ronnie Graham.
