One by one the old totter, and fall into the grave, having reached the limit of life's usefulness. The death of such is accepted with resignation, but it is inexpressibly sad to see the young - those whose life work yet face them - pass from among us, as did Howard Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Campbell, who live near Old Emma, last Friday. He came to town Friday to witness the Red Cross base ball game, which was being played between Ralls and Floydada, after which he was to ride a brone horse. The game was finished and the horse let out on the base ball diamond, where a sursingle was placed on him, and the boy mounted, before the eyes of hundreds of spectators, and the exhibition was on. The horse pitched out across the field, the herders failing to keep him out of the rough ground, and while pitching across the public road fell, and it seems that the rider was so exhausted that he was unable to get out of the animal's way, and as a result he was caught under the horse, the right side of his chest being crushed, his arm broken in two places and skull fractured, death being almost instaneous. When the horse fell the people rushed in a mass. W. C. Mumford reached him as he breathed his last. Dr. Fulbright, who was present, used every means known to medical science to revive the youth but without avail. The body was conveyed to the home of Mrs. Lockwood who lives just west of the ball diamond and afterwards carried to his home near Emma. Interment took place in the Ralls cemetery Saturday afternoon.
