Biography

Richard Alexander Brown was born on June 8, 1908, in Floydada, Texas, his father, Richard Monroe Brown, was 42 and his mother, Lura Johanna Dyche, was 33. He had one son and one daughter with Elzie Bernice Shoemaker/ Brown. He died on May 23, 1970, in Ralls, Texas, at the age of 61.

Elzie Bernice Shoemaker was born on September 1, 1909, in New Mexico, her father, James Assard Shoemaker, was 26 and her mother, Mary Alice Griffin, was 21. She had one son and one daughter with Richard Alexander Brown (A). She died on November 4, 1992, in Ralls, Texas, at the age of 83.

R. A. Brown's Service Set

Richard Brown RALLS (Special) - Services for Richard Alexander Brown, 61, will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Haddock, pastor and Elder Joe Jackson, officiating. Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery directed by Carter Funeral Home.

Brown was dead on arrival at Crosbyton Hospital at 5 p.m. Satuday.

He moved to the Ralls area in 1919 from Chavez County, N.M. He had been an employee of Texaco for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife, Elzie; a son, Clyde of Garland; a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Lemon of LUbbock; three sisters, Mrs. W.C. Clayton of Colorado City, Mrs. E.O. Moore of Crosbyton and Mrs. E.B. Stewart of Loraine; and nine grandchildren.

Elzie Brown RALLS (Special) - Services for Elzie Berneice Brown, 83, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ralls First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Morrow, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died at 9:14 a.m. Wednesday in Lubbock´s St. Mary of the Plains Hospital after an illness.

She was born in Red Land, NM, and moved to Ralls from Scurry County in 1925. She married Richard Alexander Brown on March 22, 1928, in Floydada. She was a crocheter and had won numerous prizes, including two Blue Ribbons as recently as the 1992 State Fair of Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Ralls First Baptist Church. Her husband died on May 23, 1970.

Survivors include a son, Clyde of Plano; a daughter, Joyce Drake of Lubbock; two brothers, Sam Shoemaker and Roy Shoemaker, both of Ralls; five sisters, Mary Hale and Kittie Beck, both of Ralls, Jimmie Richardson and Joanna Crane, both of Quitman, and Alice Wilson of California; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
