Lester Bownds

U.S.Flag RALLS (Special) - Services for Lester T. Bownds, 86, of Ralls will be at 3 p.m. today at Ralls First Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Burk, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dale Cain, pastor of Lubbock´s Calvary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

Bownds died at 3:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary´s Hospital in Lubbock following a lengthy illness.

A native of Jacksonville, he attended East Texas Normal College in 1912. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and married Inda Irwin Poteet Dec. 20, 1917, in Memphis and moved to Ralls in 1920 from Estelline.

A dairyman and farmer, Bownds was also involved in real estate and insurance. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and was a former member of Ralls Lions Club. He had been a member of Ralls First Baptist Church since 1922.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Sammie of Ralls; three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Myra) Timmons of Lubbock, Mrs. Pat Bales of Ralls and Mrs. Delton (Peggy) Campbell of Plainview; three sisters, Sadie Batton and Iva Wilson, both of Lubbock, and Mrs. Lamar (Lennie) Allen of Dallas; 14 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
