Services for Ray Gene Bownds, 47, of Alvin were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Ralls First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating and the Rev. Randy Bartley assisting.

Burial was in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

He died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston.

He was born June 9, 1955, in Crosbyton. He married Pam Shoemaker on Aug. 28, 1974, in Ralls. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church in Alvin. He was raised in Ralls and was a graduate of Ralls High School class of 1973. He attended South Plains College and worked for Plains Marketing LLC in Houston as a truck driver for 23 years. He moved to Alvin in August 1996 from Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Bownds, on May 17, 2002.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Samantha Hunt of Webster and Karlinda Buckan, Candace Bownds and Connie Bownds, all of Alvin; his father; Sammie of Ralls; and three brothers, Lester of Lorenzo, Sammy Joe of Plainview and Kenneth of Garland.
